I Haven't Given Up!

It would look like I've given up, but I still think this is an idea that could work, I just haven't figured out what it needs. I need to both find the right users who can bring and share content as well as a more user friendly interface to allow these people to upload and share content (images). I haven't done the best job spreading the word, only a weak facebook group attempt without any real heart. Once the site is a bit more polished I'll try again, hopefully this time connecting with the right crowd.

I envision students being the main users of the site since they are idealistic and in the need of design challenges for both class projects and portfolios. They also tend to be good intentioned, which is the point of this site...

Museum's could also be a good connection, especially the Cooper-Hewitt with it's current "Why Design Now" exhibit. So that's a possible avenue to pursue.

The facebook page is now official!

Our facebook page is now facebook.com/innovatefortomorrow ! This means it's much easier to find and looks more professional.  Please continue to spread the word!

Facebook Fan Page Created!

Today I created a Facebook fan page for Innovate For Tomorrow.  This
will should help us gain users/thinkers.  To become a fan just follow this link!

To learn more click on the Mission link.  Anonymous readers can see the Problems section, however the Solutions section isn't visible until after logging in.  Also log in to post either a problem or a solution.

Clean Drinking Water

I think that everyone should be able to drink clean water when they are thirsty.  It seems as though no one thinks about this in the US because we are so accustomed to watering our grass with millions of gallons of clean drinking water ever year.  This is a real problem and one that more engineering students should pay attention to.

Login Box Problem Fixed For Good!

Check it out! In both firefox and safari the log in box is the correct size! It is no longer attacking the content. It turned out to be a 2 minute CSS fix, about 1000 times easier than the php module fix that I had tried previously, that ended up only working for firefox.

Updates

Removed the "Blog" heading from the blogs page by making a new view.

I also have now made it so that people viewing the site without being logged in cannot view the solutions page, however I think individual solutions still work. I'm not sure how to make this as friendly as possible, since I want to protect user's idea's (as much as that is possible, through the terms of use), however I know that people don't being forced to log into sites all the time. OpenID isn't quite popular enough to solve this problem right now.

Closer still!

I've fixed the log in box size issue for firefox, but now it's out of control in safari, jutting way into the page (see attachment). The navigation now stay's "active" (blue) when on the page that was clicked, the contact form looks correct and works, and the terms of use look correct on both the registration page and the /termsofuse page.

I'm still trying to:

Remove "Blogs" and "Jon's Blog" from the blogs section, but I think I'll be able to sort that out with the view's module, as a replacement to the default blogs view.

Solving Disaster Relief Housing

EXAMPLE/TEST
After conducting a design study on current disaster relief housing, and thinking of sustainability, and the lifetime of such a building, I have come up with the following design. As seen in the first 2 pictures (i haven't implemented pictures yet) the structure is made of bamboo, and the roof is made of __________. The structure could be made locally in preparation for storm season, wherever bamboo is available. In pictures 3 and 4, I have substituted bamboo for ______ wood, which is found in the _____ region of the world where bamboo doesn't grow.

Huge css update!

Finally got back to this. It's still got a long way to go, but it's at least looking a bit better. I keep clicking on links that take me to un-styled elements, which means I just need to go through and finish that up.

Once that's done I can start adding the real features of the site - hopefully the drupal community has the plug-ins that I need in order for this to work. I really don't want to have to try to learn php.
